Com folga para algo vs pontual, na hora exata.

São pares que parecem intercambiáveis, mas comunicam ideias diferentes. Vamos um a um.

03 / 07 · In time vs On time

Com folga vs pontual

Chegar a tempo ou na hora.

in time a tempo — com folga, antes do limite (geralmente "in time for / to")
We arrived in time to catch the train. (com sobra)
vs
on time pontual — na hora marcada, nem cedo nem tarde
The meeting started on time, at 9:00 sharp. (pontual)
! On time = no horário exato. In time = cedo o bastante para algo (com uma margem).

Atividade vs lugar

At school ou in school?

at school na escola — presente lá, como atividade/rotina (também at work, at home)
She's at school until 3 pm. (está lá agora)
vs
in school dentro do prédio; e no inglês americano, "estudando / matriculado"
Are your kids still in school? (estudando)

O mesmo padrão vale para at work (no trabalho, na atividade) e at home (em casa). Use sempre at para a ideia de "presente naquele lugar/rotina".

Conclusão vs ponto final

In the end ou at the end?

in the end no fim das contas — finalmente, depois de tudo (conclusão, resultado)
In the end, we decided to stay. (finalmente)
vs
at the end no final de algo — o ponto/momento final (quase sempre "at the end of…")
At the end of the movie, everyone cried. (ponto final)
! At the end quase sempre pede of + algo. In the end vem sozinho = "finalmente".
